How to win at flag reveal games: guess the hidden flag faster
Quick answer: Name countries quickly to uncover tiles, look for a distinctive feature such as a star, crescent, cross or triangle, and guess as soon as you see one.
What Under the Flag is
Under the Flag is a daily flag game. You name countries to uncover a mystery flag piece by piece, against a 60-second timer.
How to score well
The best results come from guessing with as few tiles uncovered as possible, so learning flag features pays off.
How the game works
A mystery flag is hidden under 24 tiles. Each country you name uncovers part of it, and you have 60 seconds to work out which flag it is. Fewer tiles uncovered and less time used means a better result.
What to look for
Most flags can be identified from a few features. Train yourself to spot them early:
| Feature | Examples |
|---|---|
| Stars | USA, China, Vietnam, Brazil |
| Crescent | Turkey, Tunisia, Pakistan, Algeria |
| Cross | Nordic countries, Switzerland, Greece |
| Triangle at the hoist | Palestine, Jordan, Sudan, Czechia |
| Coat of arms in the centre | Mexico, Portugal, Spain |
| Unusual colours | Sri Lanka’s maroon, Jamaica’s black, gold and green |
Guess early, but not too early
Name countries quickly to uncover tiles, and stop as soon as you can see one distinctive feature. Two colours are rarely enough: red and white appear on dozens of flags. A symbol, a cross or a triangle usually is.
