The best flag quizzes, from easy to expert

Quick answer: Start with multiple-choice flag quizzes, move to typing the country name, then try timed challenges and flag-reveal games. Learning look-alike pairs such as Chad and Romania is the biggest jump in score.

Easy

Multiple-choice flags and picture matching: you only need to recognise, not recall.

Medium

Type-the-name quizzes and flags grouped by continent.

Hard

Timed games, partly hidden flags and look-alike sets such as Indonesia and Monaco or Ireland and Ivory Coast.

Flags with unusual features

Nepal has the only non-rectangular national flag. Mozambique’s flag shows an AK-47 rifle. Bhutan’s flag has a dragon, and Cyprus shows a map of the island. Paraguay’s flag has different designs on each side.

How to practise with a quiz

Start with multiple choice by continent so you get used to the flags of one region. Move on to Match pairs, where you link flags and names against the clock, then to typing the country with no options. Finish each session with the flags you got wrong.

On Trivillion, the AI notices which flag games you play most and suggests the next step, for example country shapes or capitals once you know the flags of a continent.

Flags with stories

Some flags are easy to remember because of the story behind them. The red of Switzerland’s flag with its white cross is reversed in the symbol of the Red Cross, which was founded in Geneva. Palestine’s flag uses the Pan-Arab colours that date back to the Arab Revolt of 1916. Japan’s flag, a red disc on white, represents the sun, and the country’s name in Japanese means “origin of the sun”.
